google+ hangout signal hill style. yammering on about recording plans! (Taken with instagram)
hi everyone!
hope this finds you all doing well :) things have been moving along quite nicely in the signal hill camp(s). since our last update, we all got to hang together in NYC (second time in 6 months!). not only did we get to play a great show with our pals north end, calls, and new friends no grave like the sea, but we also got to spend a few days refining the songs for our new album. many thanks to all who were able to make it out for the show. felt good to be playing live again!
here’s the setlist we played:

additionally, we are thrilled to report that we have pretty much solidified the new tunes, and are pretty darn close to begin recording. at this point we are targeting a late spring/early summer recording session (subject to change!), likely back at the compound with friends jeff lewis and patrick murphy. there’s not a target launch date yet, but certainly it will be out this year.
the new record will be called “chase the ghost” and the tentative tracklist, in no particular order (also subject to change!) is:
we are excited to begin sharing these new tunes with you (all songs are new with the exception of van gogh sky, which was initially on our split 7” with all india radio). here’s a super short clip from dave’s phone of us working on “corners”.
also, while we are all together tracking the new album, we just might have to do a show in the LA area..been far too long. hoping we can find the time to squeeze in a show, we will definitely keep you posted!
that’s about it for now, but you will definitely be hearing more from us in the very near future!
thanks for listening and for your continued support!
your friends,
signal hill

a little video clip of us working on a new song called “corners” which will be on our upcoming album.
we will have a few of these screen printed poster prints at our show tomorrow night at don pedro’s in brooklyn! we are playing with our friends North End, CALLS, and super excited to see/meet no grave like the sea!
hope to see you there!
time flies! seriously can’t believe we are just 11 days away from our upcoming show with North End, No Grave Like The Sea (NYC), & CALLS in brooklyn ny! working on some tunes for the setlist over this next week and a half. pretty excited/nervous! additionally, we are screen printing some limited edition posters for the show which rishi designed. they will all be hand numbered or signed…
the che cafe in san diego, is one of our absolute favorite places to play. one of the most band friendly diy venues one could come across, and has been a staple in the san diego music scene for over 30 years. its a volunteer run collective/community that in addition to hosting shows, is also a vegan cafe, and even hosts social and political events. it has served up some special memories for us throughout our years as a band.
unfortunately, they have been hit with some pretty high insurance premiums and other expenses that are causing it to come dangerously close to shutting down. we want to help keep this place open to create memorable nights for many more fans/bands in the future, so we thought we would run a few specials to help donate to the cause.
beginning today, saturday january 7th - monday january 9th, the proceeds from all sales (except shipping) will be donated to che cafe. meaning if you buy any item, we will give the money directly to them. additionally, we’ve got a few download options at really low donation prices.
(EDITED to remove offers no longer available)
just want to donate directly to the cause? the che cafe has put up a donation page where you can donate any amount you would like!
help spread the word and save this great place!
your friends,
signal hill
(also, here are a few photos and videos of us playing at the che in the past)

wow, cannot believe 2011 is coming to a close! that might be the same opening we use at the end of every one of these year-end posts, but it’s true! it was a great year, and we cannot thank you all enough for your support!

2011 was also a year of some really fantastic music, hence the unavoidable: a top albums and tracks lists from us. but before we get into that, a couple of quick notes regarding what’s next to come.
mid-feb, the west coast branch will join the folks in the east coast office to finish fine tuning the songs for the new album. at this point, we are looking to begin recording in april and hopefully launching a late summer release! more to come on that. we thought while all together, we might as well play another show! friday feb 17 @ don pedro’s in brooklyn, with north end, calls, and alcian – rsvp by going to the facebook event
lastly, our sincere gratitude for your continued support. warm wishes, season’s greetings, happy holidays etc. with love, signal hill

here’s an instrumental version of a song called the radiator by one of our favorite bands, ida. we wrote and recorded it a few years ago for fun, and when noor and adam mentioned the idea of contributing a track to benefit the victims from the horrific events in japan earlier this year, we thought, if ever a time to release it, now was it. its definitely a different tune for us, but enjoy. (you can hear an original version of the tune here.
